Roseanne Barr is an American actress, comedian, writer, and producer, born on November 3, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She’s best known for her groundbreaking sitcom Roseanne, which aired from 1988 to 1997 and was revived briefly in 2018. The show was a huge hit, depicting a working-class family with a mix of humor and raw honesty that resonated with a lot of people. It earned her an Emmy and a Golden Globe for Best Actress.
She started out in stand-up comedy in the 1980s, building a persona as a sharp-tongued, no-nonsense “domestic goddess,” which became her signature. Beyond Roseanne, she’s appeared in films like She-Devil (1989) and done voice work, including in Home on the Range (2004). She’s also had other TV projects, like The Roseanne Show (a talk show from 1998–2000) and Roseanne’s Nuts (a reality show in 2011).
Barr’s personal life and views have often stirred controversy. She’s been outspoken on politics, running for president in 2012 with the Peace and Freedom Party, and later supporting Donald Trump in 2016. Her career took a hit in 2018 when she was fired from the Roseanne revival after posting a tweet widely criticized as racist, leading ABC to cancel the show (it was later spun off into The Conners without her). She’s since apologized but remains a polarizing figure, often active on social media and in the public eye for her unfiltered takes.
